Introduction:

Having a smooth gaming experience on your PlayStation 4 (PS4) requires a good and stable Internet connection. Knowing your ping can give you a better insight into your current network performance, helping you identify issues such as lagging or packet loss. In this article, we will guide you through 8 easy steps to test ping on PS4.

Step 1: Connect to the Internet

Before testing your ping, ensure your PS4 is connected to the Internet. You can connect either through a wired Ethernet cable or using Wi-Fi. Wired connections typically offer lower latency and stable connections compared to Wi-Fi.

Step 2: Check your network status

Navigate to the PS4 main menu and go to ‘Settings.’ From there, select ‘Network,’ followed by ‘View Connection Status.’ This section will show you your current network status, including whether or not you are connected.

Step 3: Perform an Internet connection test

In the same ‘Network’ menu, scroll down and select ‘Test Internet Connection.’ Your PS4 will run a quick assessment of your online connection, giving you information like upload and download speeds. However, it doesn’t explicitly reveal your ping.

Step 4: Find a compatible website for testing ping

To precisely test your ping value, visit websites such as Speedtest.net or Ping-test.net using the PS4 web browser. These sites can provide you with an accurate measurement of your ping.

Step 5: Open the PS4 web browser

Head back to the main menu of your PS4 and open the web browser app. Search for “ping test” or directly enter one of the website URLs mentioned above in Step 4 (e.g., Speedtest.net).

Step 6: Run a ping test

Once you are on the testing website in your PS4 browser, follow the instructions provided by the site. Usually, these sites require you to click a button to start the ping test. Wait for the analysis to finish, and your ping result will be displayed.

Step 7: Interpret the results

The ping test value is measured in milliseconds (ms). Lower values indicate better network performance. Ping values below 20ms are considered excellent, while those between 20ms and 50ms are good. If your ping exceeds 100ms or is highly variable, you may experience lag during gaming sessions.

Step 8: Troubleshoot, if necessary

If you’re experiencing high ping or unstable connections, try troubleshooting by restarting your modem/router, using a wired connection instead of Wi-Fi, or moving your console closer to your router. Additionally, contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) for further assistance.

Conclusion:

Testing your ping on PS4 is crucial for an enjoyable gaming experience. Follow these easy steps to better understand and improve your network performance for smoother gameplay on your PlayStation 4.
