Steps and tips to help you replace the switches in your mechanical keyboard.

1. Gather your tools and supplies: You will need a few tools and supplies to replace your switches. These include a soldering iron, solder, a desoldering pump or wick, new switches, and a screwdriver (if necessary). Make sure that you have the correct switches for your keyboard, as there are multiple types and sizes available.

2. Disassemble your keyboard: Remove the keycaps of the keyboard to access the switches below. This may require a keycap puller or a gentle pry of a screwdriver. Then, remove the screws that hold the switch plate or PCB in place. Carefully remove the plate or PCB, being careful not to damage any of the other components.

3. Remove the old switches: To remove the old switches, first, desolder them from the PCB by heating the solder with your soldering iron and using your desoldering pump or wick to remove it. Once the solder is removed, gently wiggle the switch out of its socket.

4. Install the new switches: Insert the new switches into the socket, making sure that they are securely in place. Then, solder the switches in place, being careful not to apply too much heat and damage the PCB.

5. Reassemble your keyboard: Once the switches are soldered in place, reassemble your keyboard by replacing the switch plate or PCB and screwing it back into place. Then, replace your keycaps.

6. Test your keyboard: Before using your keyboard, test it out to ensure that all of the switches are working correctly. Press each key to make sure that it registers and functions as it should.

Conclusion: Replacing the switches in your mechanical keyboard may seem daunting at first, but with the right tools and techniques, it’s a straightforward process. Just take your time, follow the steps, and be careful not to damage any of the other components. With a little effort, you’ll have a fully functional keyboard once again.
