Disney Plus: Price Hikes, the New Ad Tier and Everything Else to Know

Disney Plus has quickly cemented its place as a top streaming platform since its launch in November 2019. The service has been a game changer in the world of entertainment, providing instant access to an extensive collection of content from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars, and National Geographic. However, there have been some recent updates that might change the way you view and utilize Disney Plus. In this article, we will cover everything you need to know about price hikes, the new ad tier, and any other essential details on Disney Plus.

Price Hikes

As of March 28th 2022, Disney increased their monthly subscription fee for Disney Plus, taking it from $7.99 to $8.99 per month in the United States. The annual subscription also saw a jump from $79.99 to $89.99. This price hike comes nearly two years after the last increase and is primarily driven by the company’s continuous investment in new original content.

The New Ad Tier

As part of its effort to make the streaming platform accessible for a broader audience, Disney announced that it would be launching a new ad-supported tier for Disney Plus in late 2022. This new tier will reportedly cost less than the ad-free version, with exact pricing details yet to be revealed. Subscribers who choose this option will still have access to all Disney Plus content; however, they will have to view ads during their streaming experience.

Impact on Other Plans

The introduction of the new ad-supported tier won’t affect current subscribers who wish to continue using the ad-free experience or those who signed up for bundled services like Hulu and ESPN+. Additionally, premier access movies like “Mulan” released with an additional fee will remain unaffected by these changes.

International Changes

International users should also be prepared for regional price adjustments. In certain countries, the subscription fee will be adjusted to better align with new content offerings and local market dynamics. Disney Plus’ expansion to new markets, like regions in the Middle East and South Africa, is also expected in 2022.

Conclusion

As Disney Plus continues to evolve and expand its content offerings, subscribers should be prepared for a changing landscape in their streaming experience. With price hikes affecting both monthly and annual subscriptions and the introduction of the ad-supported tier, consumers will have more options to make the most out of this popular streaming service.
