Introduction:

Chimichurri is a delicious and versatile sauce that has its roots in Argentina. It is a flavorful blend of fresh herbs, garlic, vinegar, oil, and spices that’s perfect for drizzling on grilled meats, vegetables, and even used as a marinade. In this article, we’ll provide a step-by-step guide for making your own homemade chimichurri sauce.

Ingredients:

– 1 cup fresh parsley leaves (packed)

– 1 cup fresh cilantro leaves (packed)

– 3-4 cloves of garlic

– 1/2 cup red wine vinegar

– 1/2 cup extra virgin olive oil

– 1 teaspoon dried oregano

– 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin

– 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (or to taste)

– Salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste

Instructions:

1. Prepare the herbs: Rinse the parsley and cilantro leaves under cold water to remove any dirt or debris. Pat them dry with paper towels before using. Remove the stems and separate the leaves from the cilantro and parsley.

2. Chop ingredients: Finely chop the garlic cloves, parsley, and cilantro leaves. Alternatively, you can use a food processor or blender to achieve a more consistent texture. If using a food processor or blender, pulse the garlic cloves first, then add the parsley and cilantro and pulse just until finely chopped.

3. Make the sauce base: In a bowl, whisk together red wine vinegar, olive oil, dried oregano, ground cumin, crushed red pepper flakes, salt, and freshly ground black pepper.

4. Combine ingredients: Add the chopped herbs and garlic to the sauce base. Stir well to combine all ingredients evenly.

5. Let it rest: Allow your chimichurri sauce to rest at room temperature for at least 20 minutes before using it. This will allow the flavors to meld together and develop a more robust taste.

6. Use or store: Serve your chimichurri sauce immediately over grilled meats, vegetables, or as a dipping sauce. Alternatively, you may store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.

Tips and Tricks:

– Remember to taste your chimichurri sauce while making adjustments to salt, pepper, and crushed red pepper flakes. This will ensure the perfect balance of flavors suited to your preference.

– Try experimenting with different fresh herbs such as mint or basil for a unique twist on the traditional chimichurri.

– Chimichurri sauce can also be used as a marinade for meats by combining it with the raw protein in a resealable plastic bag and refrigerating it for several hours before grilling.

In conclusion, chimichurri is an easy-to-make sauce that adds vibrant flavor to your dishes. By following these simple steps, you can elevate your next barbecue or dinner party with this delicious Argentinian staple!
