Career Theories: Everything You Need to Know

Many people start planning their future as soon as they graduate from high school. Most people assume that they will go to college, receive a degree, find a nice career, and gradually work their way up the ranks. However, most of the time, our lives do not proceed as planned, making it difficult to predict what will happen in the future.

As a result, it is advised that you do not always plan your life out. If you do, you will almost certainly be disappointed at some time. Instead, we’ll talk about three useful and spontaneous methods to go forward with your future.

The Theory of Planned Happenstance

The planned happenstance notion urges us to be optimistic about our future. It discusses how unanticipated incidents might be viewed as opportunities. For example, you may meet the owner of a firm where you’d want to work.

You could never have planned to meet this individual years ago, thus it is an unforeseen event. However, if they give you a job, you should surely accept it, even if it is not in your “life plan.”

This idea highlights a few abilities that we should work on to make the most of our position. These are some examples:

  • Curiosity
  • Optimism
  • Persistence
  • Flexibility
  • Risk-taking

Utilizing A Career Service Center

You might use a career assistance center to help you decide where you want to go in the future. In a nutshell, they will be able to help you with the following:

  • Taking career assessments
  • Discovering new possibilities
  • Developing your brand
  • Connecting with potential employers

Career Chaos Theory

It is critical to remember that life does not follow a straight path. Instead, you are likely to have ups and downs, which means you may find yourself deviating from your ‘professional plan.’

The significance of flexibility is discussed in the chaos theory of careers. We will be able to deal with unforeseen changes if we have this quality. This approach emphasizes the significance of being open-minded, taking incremental steps, seeking new experiences, thinking about the broader picture, and receiving input from specialists, in addition to flexibility.

Finally, consider the following:

When it comes to our futures, there isn’t much we can do. While we may have a clear idea of what we want to do, it is not always practical to carry it through. As a result, we must retain an open mind. The necessity of flexibility and optimism is described in the notions of planned happenstance and chaos.
