Cardiovascular Fitness After Childbirth

Cardiovascular fitness looks different in the postpartum period. High-intensity workouts are not recommended immediately after childbirth. Instead, focus on gradually rebuilding endurance and cardiovascular health.
Walking is an excellent starting point. Begin with short, gentle walks and progressively increase duration and intensity. Swimming and stationary cycling are also low-impact options that can help rebuild cardiovascular fitness.
Consider these cardiovascular recovery strategies:
- Start with 10-15 minute sessions
- Listen to your body
- Stay hydrated
- Wear supportive clothing
- Use a fitness tracker to monitor intensity
As you progress, you can introduce more challenging cardiovascular activities. Always get clearance from your healthcare provider and work with a postnatal fitness professional.
