As families and outdoor enthusiasts look for health-conscious ways to enjoy the summer, foot traffic on walking trails across the globe has significantly increased. This summer has seen some trails becoming bustling hotspots for those eager to bask in nature’s splendor. If you find yourself in New Zealand, renowned for its stunning landscapes and pristine wilderness, you’re in for a treat as we reveal some of the best day walks this island nation has to offer.

The charming coastal walks in the Abel Tasman National Park, with their golden sand beaches and clear blue waters, have attracted droves of hikers. Particularly popular is the Abel Tasman Coast Track, a walk that can be spread over several days or enjoyed as short sections in a single day. The resplendent views and easy accessibility make it a busy spot during the summer season.

Down south, trails around Queenstown continue to buzz with activity. The Ben Lomond Track grants hikers panoramic views of Lake Wakatipu and the surrounding alpine scenery once they reach its summit—a satisfying reward for a day’s hike.

The Tongariro Alpine Crossing on the North Island claims much-deserved attention with its dramatic volcanic features. Often cited as one of the best day walks in the world, it is experiencing high volumes of walkers eager to witness its emerald lakes and rugged terrain.

Another gem is the Roy’s Peak Track in Wanaka, which, despite a demanding ascent, offers Instagram-worthy backdrops at every turn, making it a busy trail over the summer months.

For those seeking lush forest scenery and cascading waterfalls, the Milford Track presents an enchanting experience. Though it is known as one of New Zealand’s great walks requiring several days to complete fully, sections near Glade Wharf transform into a one-day adventure teeming with hikers looking for a taste of Fiordland’s majestic wilderness.

In summary, these walking trails are not just pathways through nature; they are journeys into breathtaking realms that captivate the spirit of adventure within each visitor. Given their beauty and popularity, it’s no surprise that they remain some of New Zealand’s busiest trails during the summer season. Whether you are an experienced trekker or just looking for daily escapades, these trails ensure memories that will last a lifetime.
