Writing is both an art and a craft, and improving your skills often comes from a combination of practice and learning from others’ experiences. Here’s some of the best writing advice from renowned authors and writing experts:

  1. “Read, read, read” – Stephen King
    • Immerse yourself in various genres and styles to broaden your literary horizons.
  2. “Show, don’t tell” – Anton Chekhov
    • Use vivid descriptions and actions to convey emotions and situations rather than simply stating them.
  3. “Write with the door closed, rewrite with the door open” – Stephen King
    • Draft freely without worrying about others’ opinions, but edit with your audience in mind.
  4. “Kill your darlings” – William Faulkner
    • Be willing to cut even your favorite passages if they don’t serve the overall story.
  5. “Write what you know” – Mark Twain
    • Draw from your experiences and knowledge to create authentic content.
  6. “The first draft of anything is shit” – Ernest Hemingway
    • Don’t aim for perfection in your first draft; focus on getting your ideas down.
  7. “Use simple language” – George Orwell
    • Clear, concise writing often has more impact than flowery prose.
  8. “Write every day” – Ray Bradbury
    • Consistency is key to improving your skills and maintaining creativity.
  9. “Show up, show up, show up, and after a while the muse shows up, too” – Isabel Allende
    • Don’t wait for inspiration; create a routine and stick to it.
  10. “Finish what you’re writing” – Neil Gaiman
    • Completing projects, even if they’re not perfect, is crucial for growth.
  11. “Write with passion” – F. Scott Fitzgerald
    • Let your enthusiasm for your subject shine through your words.
  12. “Revise, revise, revise” – Joyce Carol Oates
    • Good writing often comes from thorough editing and multiple drafts.
  13. “Find your voice” – Toni Morrison
    • Develop your unique style and perspective.
  14. “Write for yourself first” – John Grisham
    • Focus on creating something you’d enjoy reading.
  15. “Embrace failure” – J.K. Rowling
    • Learn from rejections and use them as motivation to improve.

Remember, what works for one writer may not work for another. Experiment with different techniques and advice to find what resonates with you and enhances your writing process.

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
