Best Memes & Tweets About The 2024 MTV VMAs

It’s the day after the 2024 MTV Video Music Awards, and the internet is overflowing with a fresh batch of memes and tweets that capture the night’s most unforgettable moments. From jaw-dropping performances to unexpected wins, fans across social media platforms have gifted us with a barrage of comedic takes that are as entertaining as the show itself.

As is tradition with any pop culture event of magnitude, Twitter users came armed with their A-game, live-tweeting reactions that ranged from hilarious to downright savage. Whether it was poking fun at eccentric outfits or turning poignant acceptance speeches into meme material, no aspect of the VMAs was spared from the internet’s playful scrutiny.

One meme that quickly went viral features the host caught in an unflattering pause, mouth agape mid-sentence—now dubbed the universal expression for “when you remember you left your straightener on at home.” But it wasn’t just unintentional blunders that got the meme treatment. When one star took to the stage with an unexpected plus one—a live snake—memes comparing the moment to iconic scenes from early 2000s VMAs became an instant hit.

The tweets were equally as golden. Celebrities getting caught jamming to their rival’s performance sparked a slew of “caught in 4K” tweets, pointing out that no matter how fierce music rivalries might be, a catchy tune transcends all beefs. Meanwhile, a mix-up during the award presentations had Twitter in stitches, as people compared it to everything from Miss Universe pageant mishaps to daily life faux pas.

Even brands jumped onto the meme bandwagon. Streaming services took jabs at each other with subtle references to artists’ streaming numbers, while fast food chains related menu items to unforgettable VMA moments.

However, perhaps it was the unexpected political statement made by one performer that really set social media ablaze—a sequence turned into memes and gifs that continue to dominate feeds. Underneath all the fun and games, it’s clear these cultural snippets provide more than just laughs—they’re a commentary on our times.

As we scroll through our timelines enjoying these bits of levity, we’re reminded why events like the VMAs are about more than just accolades and performances—they’re reflections of our collective pop culture consciousness, reshaped and retweeted for posterity. And if this year’s memes are anything to go by, 2024 will be remembered as a year when humor once again took center stage amidst the music industry’s brightest stars.
