The internet has an estimated 1.2 billion websites today, and Google, Bing, and Yahoo Index most of them. However, these search engines only scratch the surface of the internet. The web’s vastest region is the invisible internet, also known as the deep web.

The deep web encompasses online services that cannot be accessed through mainstream browsers like Google Chrome, Firefox or Edge. The majority of the deep web is made up of unique file formats, databases, and not indexed content that may be guarded by authentication or encryption measures.

That being said, researching on the deep web is not simple. But with the right resources, you can dig deep to discover unindexed content such as research, academic repositories, legal contracts, lectures, and much more. And this is where deep web search engines come in.

Here are some of the best deep search engines to check out.

1. Torch Tor Search

This search engine works on the TOR network, a safe network that ensures user secrecy. Torch Tor Search is well known for offering anonymous browsing while enabling users to search through onion sites, which are otherwise invisible to the mainstream web.

2. Ahmia Search Dragon

This search engine also primarily works on the TOR network that provides safe, anonymous searching. The Ahmia Search Dragon’s search algorithms are designed to extract stored data from deep web databases.

3. Freenet

Freenet is an unindexed P2P network that links computers with a safe, private network. Freenet functions like a privacy web browser that provides complete anonymity while you browse the deep web.

4. DeepWebTech

If you’re looking for advanced and precise deep web search results, DeepWebTech is your thing. It features more than fifty databases, including science, medicine, and business repositories.

5. Yippy

Yippy is a privacy-sensitive search engine that doesn’t collect user data. Unlike Google and other mainstream search engines, Yippy’s innovative search algorithms focus on privacy and safety.

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
