Finding laptops that are entirely made in America can be challenging, as many components are often sourced globally. However, some companies assemble their laptops in the USA or have significant operations in the country. Here are some of the best options for those seeking American-made laptops:

  1. Dell (Partial Assembly in USA)
  • Key Points:
    • Some models assembled in Austin, Texas
    • Significant R&D and corporate presence in the USA
  • Notable Models:
    • Dell XPS series
    • Alienware gaming laptops

While not all Dell laptops are made in the USA, the company does assemble some high-end models in Texas and has a strong American presence.

  1. HP (Hewlett-Packard) (Partial Assembly in USA)
  • Key Points:
    • Some business laptops assembled in Indianapolis, Indiana
    • Strong American roots and significant operations in the USA
  • Notable Models:
    • Select HP EliteBook models
    • Some HP ZBook workstations

  1. Purism

    • Assembles laptops in the USA
    • Uses some US-made components
  • Notable Model:
    • Librem series

  1. System76

    • Focuses on open-source software and hardware
  • Notable Models:
    • Oryx Pro
    • Darter Pro

System76 is known for its Linux-based laptops and has been increasing its US-based manufacturing efforts.

  1. Falcon Northwest
  • Key Points:
    • Specializes in high-performance custom laptops
    • Built to order in Medford, Oregon
    • Focuses on gaming and professional use
  • Notable Model:
    • TLX series

It’s important to note that “American-made” can have different interpretations. While these companies assemble or manufacture some laptops in the USA, many components may still be sourced internationally due to the global nature of the electronics supply chain.

When considering an American-made laptop, research the specific model you’re interested in, as manufacturing locations can vary even within a company’s product line. Additionally, consider factors such as performance, build quality, and after-sales support alongside the country of manufacture when making your decision.
