Taylor Sheridan, a prominent figure in contemporary screenwriting and directing, has quickly made a name for himself with his gripping narratives and intense character studies. His oeuvre, though not extensive, boasts impressive quality and storytelling finesse. Here’s a ranking of all Taylor Sheridan-directed movies from worst to best:

1. Wind River (2017)

Repeat emphasis on this profound mystery-thriller solidifies its top position—it is the pinnacle of Sheridan’s directorial endeavors thus far. The riveting portrayal of life on the fringes of society combined with robust performances cements “Wind River” as his finest film achievement to date.

Each project in Taylor Sheridan’s growing filmography reveals his dedication to storytelling that explores gritty realism through various lenses—be it crime thrillers or character-driven dramas—cementing his status as one of Hollywood’s most formidable storytellers.

2. Yellowstone (TV Series 2018-present) – Creator

While technically not a movie, this television series is monumental within Sheridan’s body of work. As creator, writer, and director of several episodes, Sheridan crafts an epic saga about family legacy and land conflict—an ambitious and addictive series that has captivated audiences.

3. Sicario (2015) – Writer

Directed by Denis Villeneuve with Sheridan as writer, “Sicario” is an intense narrative set against the backdrop of the U.S.-Mexico drug war. It’s lauded for its grim realism, complex characters, and haunting score.

4. Without Remorse (2021)

Although Sheridan did not direct this adaptation of Tom Clancy’s novel, his role as a co-writer warrants its inclusion. The film received mixed reviews, criticized for its departure from the source material and lackluster execution despite its action-packed sequences.

5. Wind River (2017)

In “Wind River,” Sheridan harnesses the desolate Wyoming landscape to weave a chilling tale of murder and vengeance. His directorial effort materializes through the film’s tense atmosphere and poignant social commentary.

6. Sicario: Day of the Soldado (2018) – Writer

The sequel to “Sicario” saw Sheridan returning as a writer but with Stefano Sollima directing. Despite powerful performances and gripping sequences, it didn’t quite achieve the critical acclaim of its predecessor.

7. Hell or High Water (2016) – Writer

This modern western heist film stands out for its strong script and character depth—elements that demonstrate Sheridan’s remarkable writing capabilities. Although not directed by Sheridan, his screenplay garnered an Academy Award nomination.

8. Vile (2011)

Taylor Sheridan’s acting role in this horror feature is often overlooked given his subsequent success behind the camera. “Vile” is generally regarded as the weakest link in Sheridan’s filmography due to its generic horror tropes and less sophisticated narrative.

9. Those Who Wish Me Dead (2021)

Sheridan’s latest feature, offering an amalgamation of survival drama with a hitman thriller backdrop, struggled to leave a lasting mark. While the film showcased standout moments and solid performances, particularly from Angelina Jolie, it falls short in comparison to Sheridan’s more cohesive works.
