Alfred Hitchcock, the master of suspense, created an array of films that have captivated audiences for decades. His unique ability to blend suspense, horror, and psychological drama has made his works timeless classics. As we look back on his illustrious career, Rotten Tomatoes’ rankings offer a keen insight into which of these films are deemed his best. Here are Alfred Hitchcock’s ten best movies, ranked according to their Rotten Tomatoes scores.

1.”Psycho” (1960) – 96%

The mother of all psychological thrillers, “Psycho’s” infamous shower scene is etched in cinematic history, and the twist ending has influenced countless films since.

2.”North by Northwest” (1959) – 99%

This film offers a thrilling mix of suspense and comedy and features the iconic crop duster scene—another testimony to Hitchcock’s ingenuity.

3.”Rear Window” (1954) – 98%

A masterpiece of suspense and voyeurism, James Stewart’s portrayal of a wheelchair-bound photographer is both intense and compelling.

4.”Vertigo” (1958) – 94%

Often cited as Hitchcock’s most personal film, its tale of obsession and romance has gained critical acclaim over the years, even being named the greatest film of all time by Sight & Sound’s critics’ poll in 2012.

5.”Rebecca” (1940) – 100%

An Oscar-winning classic that marked Hitchcock’s first American film; its moody atmosphere and gothic romance are unforgettable.

6.”Notorious” (1946) – 97%

A spy thriller that combines romance and intrigue with Cary Grant and Ingrid Bergman leading a stellar cast.

7.”Strangers on a Train” (1951) – 98%

The chilling premise of exchanging murders makes this one of Hitchcock’s most intriguing psychological thrillers.

8.”The Birds” (1963) – 96%

An apocalyptic story that remains one of the most harrowing depictions of nature turning against humanity.

9.”Dial M for Murder” (1954) – 87%

A brilliantly clever crime thriller turned stage play that keeps audiences on the edge with its swift plot twists.

10.”Shadow of a Doubt” (1943) – 100%

An often overlooked gem that explores the darkness lurking beneath small-town America with Joseph Cotten delivering an exceptional performance as Uncle Charlie.

These films represent some of the pinnacle achievements in Hitchcock’s career and continue to set the standard for thrillers and suspense films to this day. Each ranking reflects critics’ collated opinions at the time of this writing and speaks volumes about Hitchcock’s enduring legacy in cinema.
