Headers and footers are an important part of any document, including Excel worksheets. They provide a way to add important information such as page numbers, document titles, and date and time stamps to your worksheets. In this article, we will cover how to add preset or custom headers and footers to your Excel worksheets.

Adding Preset Headers and Footers

Excel provides a number of preset headers and footers that you can use to quickly add common information to your worksheets. To add a preset header or footer, follow these steps:

1.Click on the Insert tab in the ribbon.

2.Click on the Header & Footer button.

3.Select the desired preset header or footer from the list.

Once you have selected a preset header or footer, it will be added to your worksheet. You can then customize the text and formatting as needed.

Adding Custom Headers and Footers

If you need to add custom information to your headers or footers, you can create your own using the Custom Header and Custom Footer options. To add a custom header or footer, follow these steps:

1.Click on the Insert tab in the ribbon.

2.Click on the Header & Footer button.

3.Select the Custom Header or Custom Footer option.

In the dialog box that appears, enter the desired text and formatting for your header or footer.

You can use a variety of formatting options, including font size and style, color, and alignment. You can also insert special fields such as page numbers, document titles, and date and time stamps.

Tips and Tricks

Here are a few tips and tricks to help you get the most out of headers and footers in Excel:

1.Use different headers and footers for different sections of your worksheet. For example, you might use a different header or footer for the first page of your worksheet than for subsequent pages.

2.Use the Different First Page and Different Odd & Even Pages options to create headers and footers that are unique to the first page or even or odd pages of your worksheet.

3.Use the ampersand (&) symbol to combine different fields in your headers and footers. For example, you might use “&BPage &P of &N” to display the current page number and the total number of pages in bold.

By following these tips and tricks, you can create headers and footers that are informative, professional, and customized to your needs.
