How to Fix Windows Update Install Error 0x80070643

Windows update is an essential feature of the Windows Operating System. It helps in keeping the system software up-to-date and fixes any bugs that might be present in the system. However, at times while updating Windows, some users might encounter an error 0x80070643. This error generally occurs while updating the Windows Defender or Microsoft Office. If you are facing this issue, then don’t worry, this article will guide you on how to fix Windows Update install error 0x80070643.

Solution 1: Restart the Update Services

Sometimes, restarting the update services can resolve the error. Here are the steps to follow:

Step 1: Press the “Windows key + R” to open the Run command window.

Step 2: Type in “services.msc” and click on the “OK” button.

Step 3: In the Services window, search for the “Windows Update” service.

Step 4: Right-click on the service and select the “Restart” option.

Step 5: Restart the computer and try updating again.

Solution 2: Remove the Software Distribution Folder

The Software Distribution folder contains temporary files that are created by the Windows update service. Removing the folder may help in resolving error 0x80070643. Here’s how you can do it:

Step 1: Press “Windows key + R” to open the Run command window.

Step 2: Type in “services.msc” and click on the “OK” button.

Step 3: In the Services window, search for the “Windows Update” service.

Step 4: Right-click on the service and select the “Stop” option.

Step 5: Now go to the following location: C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution

Step 6: Delete the contents of the Software Distribution folder.

Step 7: Restart the Windows Update service and try updating again.

Solution 3: Run SFC Scan

SFC scan checks and repairs corrupt system files that may be causing the update error. Here’s how you can do it:

Step 1: Press “Windows key + X” and select the “Command Prompt (Admin)” option.

Step 2: In the Command Prompt window, type “sfc /scannow” and hit the “Enter” key.

Step 3: Wait for the scan to complete. It might take a few minutes.

Step 4: Once the scan is complete, restart your computer.

Solution 4: Uninstall Anti-Virus Software

Antivirus software can sometimes interfere with the update process, causing the error 0x80070643. Uninstalling the antivirus software temporarily and installing the updates may help in resolving the issue. Here’s how you can do it:

Step 1: Press the “Windows key + X” and select the “Settings” option.

Step 2: In the “Settings” window, select the “Apps and features” option.

Step 3: Scroll down and find the antivirus software you have installed.

Step 4: Click on the “Uninstall” button.

Step 5: Restart the computer and try updating again.
