A PSB file is a type of file format used in Photoshop software. The PSB file format is designed for large and complex images that cannot be saved in the regular PSD format. The PSB file format was introduced in Photoshop CS.

PSB stands for Photoshop Big, and it is similar to the PSD file format. However, the PSB file format can handle a larger number of layers, channels, and pixels. A PSB file can also support a higher bit depth, up to 32 bits per channel.

PSB files are ideal for creating and editing high-resolution images that require a lot of detail. They are often used for creating large-scale designs such as billboards, wall murals, or printing materials. They are also used in the film and video production industry, where a high level of detail is required.

One of the best features of the PSB file format is that it supports the use of smart objects. Smart objects are layers that contain vector and raster data, allowing designers to make changes to the graphics without sacrificing quality. Smart objects also allow for non-destructive editing, which is useful when working on complex designs.

Another great feature of PSB file format is the ability to save and view alpha channels. Alpha channels are used for compositing and masking, allowing designers to isolate and change specific parts of an image.

To save a PSB file, go to “File” and select “Save As.” In the “Save As” dialog box, select “Photoshop Big” from the “Format” dropdown menu. Choose a location and name your file, and click “Save.”

In conclusion, a PSB file is a high-resolution file format that is used for large-scale designs and editing workflows. It is similar to the PSD file format but can support a higher number of layers, channels, and pixels. Designers and creatives who work on large projects that require a lot of detail will find PSB file format ideal.
