Parquet flooring is an attractive and long-lasting option for your home. Its unique geometric patterns add beauty and sophistication to any room. If you’re considering parquet flooring for your home, follow these 12 steps to ensure a successful installation.

1. Acquire Materials and Tools: Make sure you have all the necessary materials, including: parquet tiles, adhesive, sandpaper, leveling compound, spacers, underlayment (if needed), a notched trowel, flat pry bar, tape measure, a rubber mallet or tapping block, and a circular saw.

2. Choose the Right Parquet Tiles: Different wood species have varying hardness levels and may require different installation methods. Select tiles with the same width and length dimensions for a cohesive look.

3. Prepare the Subfloor: Remove any existing flooring (carpet, tile) and make sure the subfloor surface is clean and free of debris. Use a leveling compound to fill in any low spots. Make sure the floor is level for a stable installation.

4. Install Underlayment: If necessary or recommended by the manufacturer, install an underlayment to provide a moisture barrier and extra cushioning for your new flooring.

5. Plan Your Layout: Plan out your desired pattern on paper or by laying out several tiles on the floor as preparation before applying adhesive.

6. Find the Center: Measure your room’s dimensions and find its center point—this is where you’ll start installing tiles from. Use chalk lines to mark guidelines across the center point in both directions.

7. Apply Adhesive: Using a notched trowel, apply a thin layer of adhesive directly onto the subfloor or back of each tile according to manufacturer instructions.

8. Start Installing Tiles: Begin laying tiles at the center point of your room and work outward in all four directions. Press each tile into place firmly and use a rubber mallet or tapping block to ensure a secure bond with the adhesive.

9. Maintain Gaps: Use spacers to maintain uniform gaps between tiles as you install them. This is important for allowing wood expansion and protecting your flooring’s longevity.

10. Cut Tiles as Needed: As you approach the edges of your room, you may need to cut tiles to fit. Measure each space accurately and use a circular saw to make precise cuts.

11. Allow Adhesive to Dry: Once you’ve completed installing all tiles, leave the adhesive to dry according to manufacturer instructions (usually around 24 hours).

12. Sand and Finish: When your flooring is completely dry, use sandpaper to smooth out any uneven spots between tiles, and if unfinished tiles were used, apply a suitable finish according to manufacturer recommendations.

By following these 12 steps, you can successfully install parquet flooring and enjoy its intricate patterns and long-lasting beauty for years to come.
