How to Play with Your Dog: 13 Steps

1.Observe your dog’s preferences: Some dogs may enjoy chasing after balls while others may prefer tugging on toys. Take note of what your dog enjoys most and use this as a starting point for play.

2.Choose appropriate toys: Select toys that are safe, durable, and suitable for your dog’s size and breed. Toys that are too hard could damage your dog’s teeth or cause injury.

3.Provide variety: Dogs can get bored with the same toys, so switch them out regularly to keep their interest.

4.Encourage interaction: Engage with your dog during playtime by talking to them, praising their efforts, and participating in the games.

5.Play fetch: One of the most popular games for dogs is fetch. Throw a ball or toy and encourage your dog to bring it back to you.

6.Tug-of-war: Hold one end of a rope or toy while your dog grips the other end in their mouth. Gently pull and tug, but be careful not to yank the toy away from your dog’s mouth abruptly or aggressively.

7.Hide-and-seek: Hide treats or toys around the house or yard for your dog to find. This game encourages mental stimulation and helps tap into their natural hunting instincts.

8.Use puzzle toys: Stimulate your dog’s mind by using puzzle toys, treat-dispensing toys, or those that require problem-solving skills to retrieve a reward.

9.Try agility training: Teach your dog new skills such as jumping through hoops, weaving poles, or walking on ramps by setting up an obstacle course at home or visiting a local agility training facility.

10.Go for walks and runs together: Regular exercise is essential for your dog’s physical well-being. It also provides an excellent bonding opportunity for you and your canine companion.

11.Play with water: On hot days, consider playing with water to cool your dog down. Bring a kiddie pool or visit a dog-friendly beach for some splashing fun.

12.Socialize with other dogs: Visiting a dog park or arranging playdates for your dog can provide them with opportunities to interact with other canines of various sizes and breeds.

13.End play sessions on a positive note: Finish each play session with a reward, such as praise, petting, or treats. This will help reinforce the connection that playtime is an enjoyable and rewarding experience for your dog.

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
