How to Do Aegyo (Cute in Korea): 4 Steps

Have you noticed how Korean celebrities can effortlessly show off their cute and charming side? Captivating the hearts of their fans with their adorable and youthful appearance, “Aegyo” is a cultural phenomenon in South Korea. Here are four simple steps to master the art of Aegyo and add a touch of cuteness to your daily life.

Step 1: Master the facial expressions

The first step to perfect Aegyo is mastering facial expressions. Practice raising your eyebrows and widening your eyes while keeping your mouth slightly open or pouting. You can also tilt your head slightly to the side for added effect. Remember that practice makes perfect, so spend some time in front of the mirror to get comfortable with these new expressions.

Step 2: Perfect the voice

A crucial element of Aegyo is speaking in a higher pitched, soft, and sweet tone. Watch Korean variety shows or K-dramas to pick up on how idols and actors use this technique. Adjusting your speaking style may feel awkward at first, but keep practicing until you get it just right.

Step 3: Incorporate cute gestures

Now it’s time to combine facial expressions and voice inflections with cute body language. Try making small heart shapes with your fingers or gently tapping your cheeks while smiling widely. You can also try making the ‘bbuing bbuing’ gesture by forming a fist with both hands, curling your thumb, index finger, and pinky finger halfway into small circles, then placing them near your eyes while making a playful expression.

Step 4: Know when to use Aegyo

While you might be ready to dazzle everyone with your newfound Aegyo skills, understanding when it’s appropriate to display them is essential. Use Aegyo sparingly – it should be an occasional expression of playfulness rather than a constant part of your personality. Be mindful of cultural differences and gauge how receptive your audience may be to this adorable and inviting style.

In conclusion, mastering Aegyo takes some practice, but once you get the hang of it, you’ll be able to charm everyone around you! Embrace your inner cuteness and watch as people melt from your irresistible Aegyo abilities. Remember to have fun with it and always consider the context in which you’re showcasing your newfound skills. Happy practicing!
