Introduction:

Dress shoes are an essential part of any gentleman’s wardrobe. However, many people overlook the importance of how their shoes are laced. A well-laced pair of dress shoes not only adds a touch of sophistication and style but also ensures a comfortable fit. In this article, we explore three ways to lace dress shoes that will elevate your fashion game.

1. Straight Bar Lacing:

Straight bar lacing is straightforward and neat, creating a clean appearance. This method is perfect for events where you want to showcase your professionalism and maintain a minimalist style.

Here’s how to create straight bar lacing:

– Start by inserting the shoelace into the bottom eyelets from the inside, ensuring both ends are even.

– Run one end of the shoelace straight up on the outside and in through the next eyelet up.

– Take the other end, skip one eyelet directly above it, and lace it into the next eyelet.

– Repeat this process on both sides until you reach the top eyelet, having all horizontal “bars” line up evenly.

2. Criss-Cross Lacing:

Criss-cross lacing is more casual than straight bar lacing but still provides a stylish look perfect for semi-formal events or a night out on the town. It forms an “X” pattern across your shoe, adding a touch of excitement to your ensemble.

To lace your shoes using criss-cross lacing:

– Begin by threading the shoelace through the bottom eyelets from the outside, leaving equal lengths on each side.

– Pass each end of the shoelace through its opposite eyelet diagonally across the shoe.

– Continue intertwining both ends diagonally upward in an alternating pattern until you’ve reached the top eyelets.

3. Diagonal Lacing:

Diagonal lacing offers a unique look for dress shoes, blending the simplicity of straight bar lacing with the intricate design of criss-cross lacing. Suitable for making a statement, this method sets you apart from the crowd.

Follow these steps to achieve diagonal lacing:

– Insert the shoelace through the bottom eyelets from inside, so both ends have equal length on each side.

– Bring one end of the shoelace up and thread it through all eyelets on one side diagonally, stopping at the top eyelet.

– With the other end, diagonal lace every alternate eyelet while skipping an eyelet between each step.

– Make sure to thread both ends through their respective top eyelets when finished.

Conclusion:

Each lacing method provides a different level of style and sophistication, allowing you to choose the perfect look for any occasion. Whether you opt for straight bar, criss-cross, or diagonal lacing, your dress shoes will be the perfect finishing touch to your outfit. Give these methods a try and see which one suits your personal style best.
