7 Of The Best Natural Chews For Dachshunds (And Where To Get Them)

Dachshunds, known for their playful nature and adorable long bodies, require proper dental care and stimulation like any other dog breed. Natural chews are a fantastic way to ensure your doxie keeps their teeth clean while also staying entertained. Below, find seven of the best natural chews that are perfect for your dachshund’s unique needs.

1.Sweet Potato Chews:

A naturally sweet treat, these chews are made from dehydrated sweet potatoes and are rich in vitamins, fiber, and minerals. They are easily digestible and can be a nutritious low-fat option. You can find them at health-conscious pet stores or through online retailers like Chewy.com.

2.Beef Trachea:

Packed with glucosamine and chondroitin, beef trachea can help support joint health—a concern for many dachshund owners. It’s a durable chew that is also great for dental health. Beef trachea can be purchased from boutique pet shops or online sources, such as Amazon.

3.Bully Sticks:

An all-time favorite, bully sticks are high in protein and low in fat. Made from 100% beef muscle, they’re highly digestible. While you can buy them at almost any pet store, online options like Petco often offer bulk packages that provide savings.

4.Antlers:

Deer or elk antler chews are long-lasting and rich in minerals. They’re great for intense chewers but always ensure they’re the appropriate size for your dachshund to prevent choking hazards. Antlers are widely available at pet stores and through online vendors such as Etsy.

5.Fish Skins:

For the seafood-loving pooch, dried fish skins provide a healthy dose of omega-3 fatty acids and have a rough texture that can help remove tartar build-up. The Honest Kitchen is an excellent place to source these natural ocean treats.

6.Himalayan Dog Chews:

These hard cheese snacks are made from yak or cow milk and are an excellent source of protein. Long-lasting and lactose-free, they are suitable for dachshunds with sensitivities or allergies. You can get them from specialty pet stores or websites like BarkShop.

7.Raw Bones:

Raw bones from beef or bison that have been properly prepared (free of splinters) can be a traditional natural chew that provides hours of gnawing time and will satisfy any dog’s chewing instinct. They should always be given under supervision to ensure safety. Local butchers or natural pet food stores often carry appropriate raw bone options.

Remember, always supervise your dachshund when they’re enjoying chews to prevent any choking or blockages from occurring, and consult with your vet if you have questions about what’s best for your furry friend’s diet and health.
