Istanbul, where East meets West, is a city of magnificent history and an ever-vibrant present. Here’s a guide to the top 14 things to do in this Turkish metropolis:

1. Hagia Sophia: Admire the stunning architecture of the Hagia Sophia, a former Greek Orthodox Christian patriarchal cathedral, later an Ottoman imperial mosque, and now a museum.

2. Blue Mosque: Visit the Sultan Ahmed Mosque, known as the Blue Mosque for its blue tiles adorning the interior walls. It’s still an active mosque while also being one of Istanbul’s most visited landmarks.

3. Topkapi Palace: Explore the opulent Topkapi Palace, which was the main residence and administrative headquarters of the Ottoman sultans.

4. Grand Bazaar: Shop till you drop in one of the largest and oldest covered markets in the world, a labyrinth of over 4,000 shops selling everything from carpets to spices.

5. Bosphorus Cruise: Take a cruise on the Bosphorus Strait to enjoy Istanbul from the water and see the skyline dotted with minarets and palaces.

Spice Bazaar: Stimulate your senses at the Spice Bazaar filled with vivid colors and aromatic spices; it’s a culinary exploration not to be missed.

6. Basilica Cistern: Step beneath Istanbul’s streets into this ancient underground cistern that supported the water supply for Byzantine Emperors.

7. Galata Tower: Climb up to Galata Tower for panoramic views of Istanbul’s European and Asian sides stretching before you.

8. Dolmabahçe Palace: Visit Dolmabahçe Palace for a glimpse at nineteenth-century opulence with its crystal staircase, ornate baths, and ceremonial hall.9. Chora Church (Kariye Museum): The Chora Church boasts some of Byzantine’s most stunning mosaics and frescoes depicting Christian narratives.

9. Süleymaniye Mosque: Step inside Süleymaniye Mosque by architect Mimar Sinan; marvel at its dome and extraordinary interior combined with breathtaking views of the Golden Horn.

10. Istanbul Archaeology Museums: History buffs will relish in these museums’ collections spanning several civilizations that thrived where Istanbul now stands.

11. Taksim Square & Istiklal Street: Feel Istanbul’s pulse by walking through Taksim Square along Istiklal Street with its shops, cafes, street performances, and historic tramway.

12. Turkish Bath (Hamam): Lastly, no visit would be complete without experiencing a traditional Turkish bath at historical places such as Çemberlitaş Hamamı or Süleymaniye Hamamı for relaxation.

These experiences provide not only sightseeing but also insights into Istanbul’s soul – making your visit truly unforgettable.
