Continuously monitoring glucose levels can be life-changing for people with diabetes, offering a high level of control and ease in managing their condition. Here are the 5 best continuous glucose monitors (CGMs) that could assist diabetics to stay on top of their blood sugar levels:

1.Dexcom G6:This CGM is renowned for its accuracy and the fact that it doesn’t require fingerstick calibrations. Users will find a sleek and user-friendly touchscreen receiver, or the option to have readings sent directly to their smartphone. The Dexcom G6 offers real-time glucose readings every five minutes and sends alerts if the users’ glucose is too high or too low.

2.FreeStyle Libre 2: Abbott’s FreeStyle Libre 2 provides users with the freedom of not needing traditional fingersticks. It is designed to be worn for up to 14 days, and it has optional alarms for high and low blood sugars. The system also includes a smartphone app which displays an eight-hour glucose history along with the current reading.

3.Medtronic Guardian Connect: The Guardian Connect system works well for those seeking detailed analytics regarding their glucose trends. It offers predictive alerts up to 60 minutes in advance, giving users ample time to take action. The monitoring is done through a sensor that lasts up to seven days and pairs with a smartphone app, making it easier to keep track of trends and data.

4.Eversense CGM: Distinguished by its unique long-term wear time, the Eversense sensor can be implanted by a doctor and used up to 90 days. The device provides real-time monitoring of glucose levels, as well as predictive alerts so that users can see where their glucose level is heading and make adjustments accordingly.

5.Senseonics Eversense XL:Building on the original Eversense system, the XL version lasts even longer – up to 180 days – reducing the frequency of sensor replacements. Allowing continuous monitoring through an under-the-skin sensor with removable transmitter, this device also syncs with smartphones showing real-time glucose data.

Each of these devices offers different features that can accommodate the various needs and preferences of individuals with diabetes. When choosing a CGM, it’s important to consider lifestyle compatibility, insurance coverage, cost, and personal comfort with technology integration into daily life. Consulting with a healthcare provider can help in making an informed decision that optimizes diabetes management.
