The Best Way to Clean Your Uggs

Uggs have become a staple in the world of comfortable and fashionable footwear. Their cozy sheepskin lining makes them perfect for cold weather, but it also means they require special care to keep them looking their best. If you’re looking to clean your beloved Uggs without damaging them, here’s the best way to do so.

First, start with prevention. Before you wear your Uggs for the first time, spray them with a water and stain repellent specifically designed for suede or sheepskin. This will create a barrier that repels moisture and prevents stains from setting in.

When it’s time to clean your Uggs, begin by gently brushing the surface with a suede brush to remove loose dirt and debris. This should be done regularly to maintain the nap and look of the suede.

For light stains, dampen a sponge or cloth with cold water and gently blot the affected area. Avoid soaking the boots as this can cause damage. For more persistent stains, mix a solution of equal parts water and vinegar or use a suede cleaner. Apply sparingly to the blemish with a damp cloth or sponge.

If your Uggs need a more thorough cleaning, use a specialized Ugg cleaning product designed for suede and sheepskin. Follow the instructions on the bottle carefully, usually involving wetting the boots’ exterior, applying the cleaner, and then rinsing with clean water.

After cleaning your Uggs, stuff them with paper towels or a rolled-up towel to retain their shape while drying. Never place them near direct heat or sunlight as this can lead to shrinking and fading.

Once dry, brush your Uggs again with a suede brush to restore the nap of the sheepskin. If you’ve cleaned the inside of your boots too, consider sprinkling baking soda inside them before leaving overnight; this helps absorb any leftover moisture and odours.

By following these steps you’ll ensure that your Uggs stay clean without losing their signature look and feel.
