The Best Places to Rent Tools and Equipment (and What It Will Cost)

The convenience of renting tools and equipment cannot be overstated, particularly for one-time projects or occasional uses where purchasing outright wouldn’t be cost-effective. Here’s a rundown of some of the best places to rent tools and equipment and a general idea of what it might cost you.

1.Home Depot

Known for a wide assortment of tools and construction equipment, Home Depot offers both professional-grade and consumer-friendly options. You can rent for half-day, full-day, weekly, or monthly periods. Prices range from about $25 for a few hours with a simple power tool to hundreds of dollars for large machinery like trenchers or lifts used over several days.

2.Lowe’s

Similar to Home Depot, Lowe’s provides a significant selection including power tools, lawn and garden equipment, and larger machines. The rental fees are comparable to that of Home Depot but can vary by location and tool type.

3.United Rentals

If you need more heavy-duty or specialized equipment, United Rentals is the place. They offer an enormous fleet that includes aerial work platforms, earthmoving machinery, and industrial tools. Since their inventory is vast, so is the price range — from under $50 for small tools per day up to thousands for larger equipment on monthly terms.

4.Sunbelt Rentals

With a focus on customer service and reliability, Sunbelt Rentals carries a broad inventory suitable for construction, industrial work, event planning, and more. Daily rental rates might start around $30-$40 for basic tools but expect higher rates for advanced equipment like electrical scissor lifts or skid steers.

5.Your Local Hardware Store

Don’t overlook your local mom-and-pop hardware stores as they often have rental options at competitive rates that support local business. Their range might not be as intensive, but they could have just what you need.

As prices can change frequently due to a variety of factors (location being one major participant), it is always best to check directly with the rental company for the most current pricing information. Furthermore, consider additional costs such as deposits, insurance coverage or purchase of ancillary items like safety gear when renting any tool or piece of equipment.
