The Northern Lights, or Aurora Borealis, offer a spectacular display of natural colors and lights that illuminate the sky. They are a bucket-list phenomenon for travelers and photographers alike. The following are the eight best places to view the Northern Lights:

1. Tromsø, Norway – Often called “The Paris of the North,” Tromsø is situated in the heart of the aurora zone in the Norwegian Arctic. Winter also offers snowy landscapes and whale watching opportunities.

2. Fairbanks, Alaska, USA – Located just two degrees below the Arctic near international airport and amenities, Fairbanks is an ideal spot for Northern Lights hunting in Alaska.

3. Reykjavik, Iceland – While you can see Aurora from Reykjavik, short drives out of the city can take you into darkness perfect for viewing and photography.

4. Jukkasjärvi, Sweden – Home to the world-famous Icehotel, Jukkasjärvi lays under the aurora oval with excellent chances to see the Northern Lights between September and March.

5. Yellowknife, Canada – This small city is located directly under the aurora oval, making it one of North America’s best locations for viewing the Northern Lights.

6. Luosto, Finland – Luosto in Lapland is a great destination not just for auroras but also for its National Park and Amethyst mine.

7. Murmansk, Russia – Being the largest city within the Arctic Circle means Murmansk offers unique Russian experiences along with fantastic views of the Aurora Borealis.

8. Kakslauttanen, Finland – Known for its glass igloos and log cabins, Kakslauttanen provides a unique way to watch the lights in cozy comfort.

No matter which of these destinations you choose to visit, planning your trip around the winter months and away from urban light pollution will give you better chances to witness this magical phenomena.

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
