5 Ways to Make Matte Nail Polish

When it comes to nail fashion, matte nail polish stands out for its unique and eye-catching finish. Instead of the traditional glossy and shiny appearance, matte polish gives a flat and sophisticated look. However, you don’t always need to buy a specific matte nail polish to achieve this effect. In this article, we will explore five ways you can make your very own matte finish at home using both store-bought and DIY methods.

1. Matte Topcoat:

The easiest way to turn any glossy nail polish into a matte one is to use a matte topcoat. Available at most beauty stores or online, simply paint a layer of the matte topcoat on your already dried glossy nails. Ensure that you apply an even layer for best results, and remember to let it dry completely.

2. Cornstarch:

An effortless at-home method is using cornstarch that you may already have in your kitchen cabinet. To use this technique, mix a small amount of cornstarch into your chosen glossy nail polish before applying it. Stir it well to get an even consistency, and then paint your nails with the mixture. It will produce a matte-like finish when dried.

3. Baking Powder:

Similar to cornstarch, you can also use baking powder for creating a matte finish on your nails. Mix a small quantity of baking powder into your nail polish like you would with cornstarch and ensure it’s mixed thoroughly for an even result. Apply the mixture to your nails and allow them to dry completely for a smooth matte finish.

4. Steam:

For this method, all you need is steam generated from boiling water. Paint your nails with your favorite glossy nail polish as usual but avoid using a topcoat. As your nails are still wet, hold them above the steam coming from the boiling water for approximately 10 seconds from a safe distance not to scald your skin or ruin the polish. The steam will react with the glossy layer, resulting in a matte finish as it dries.

5. DIY Matte Topcoat:

Creating your own matte topcoat is another innovative way to achieve the desired appearance. To make this, all you need is a clear topcoat and cornstarch or baking powder. Mix a small amount of either ingredient into your clear topcoat and shake it to combine them well. Apply this mixture over your properly dried glossy nails, and let it dry—your DIY matte topcoat will leave a stunning matte finish on your nails.

In conclusion, obtaining that chic and trendy matte finish for your nails doesn’t have to be difficult or expensive. With these five methods, you can quickly transform any glossy nail polish into a stunning matte version using readily available ingredients or products. So go ahead and get creative with your nails by trying these techniques at home.
