2024 Acura RDX Ditches Front-Wheel Drive and Goes AWD Only

Introduction:

The 2024 Acura RDX is set to make a significant change in its drivetrain layout, saying goodbye to the front-wheel-drive (FWD) option, and embracing an all-wheel-drive (AWD) only configuration. This shift raises excitement for loyal fans, while opening up new possibilities in performance and handling for the luxury crossover segment.

An All-Wheel-Drive Future:

For years, Acura’s RDX has offered both FWD and AWD options catering to various preferences and geographical demands. However, the move towards AWD only for the 2024 model puts the spotlight on improved performance, stability, and all-weather capability of the vehicle.

Advanced Performance Technology:

Acura’s patented Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive (SH-AWD) system first debuted in the 2005 Acura RL luxury sedan. The system enhances vehicle dynamics by actively distributing torque between both front and rear wheels, as well as between left and right rear wheels. By incorporating this technology in the 2024 Acura RDX, drivers can expect precise handling and improved road grip across a range of driving conditions.

Exterior and Interior Upgrades:

While the switch to an AWD-only configuration is the major highlight of the 2024 RDX, it doesn’t stop there. The exterior design features sleek lines and more aggressive styling in keeping with Acura’s sporty image. In addition, enhancements made to both tech amenities and comfort options showcase a premium experience for all occupants.

Fuel Efficiency Considerations:

Despite leaving behind the generally more fuel-efficient FWD configuration, it is expected that the 2024 Acura RDX will still maintain competitive fuel efficiency figures. Advancements in engine technology, weight reduction measures, and aerodynamics contribute towards making this possible.

Off-Road Capability Boost:

Notably, the 2024 Acura RDX’s move to an AWD-only configuration adds an extra dimension of off-road capability for those who enjoy weekend excursions or simply want a more robust vehicle. Although the RDX is not designed as an extreme off-roader, the added grip and improved handling make rougher terrain exploration more accessible.

Conclusion:

The decision to go AWD only for the 2024 Acura RDX is a clear indication that Acura seeks to boost its reputation for performance and handling in the luxury crossover segment. In doing so, they hope to attract new audiences and open up new possibilities as they continue to innovate in the competitive automotive market.
