5 Ways to Clean with Baking Soda

Baking soda, the versatile concoction of sodium bicarbonate, has been all the rage in recent years as a popular and environmentally friendly cleaning agent. This powerful little compound is capable of miraculous feats that will cut your cleaning time in half. Not to mention, it’s cost-effective and easy to obtain. Here are 5 amazing ways to clean with baking soda:

1.Unclog drains: Baking soda can tame even the fiercest drain clogs, creating a smooth, hassle-free experience. Pour one cup of baking soda down the clogged sink, followed by two cups of boiling water. Let it sit for 15 minutes before slowly pouring an additional two cups of boiling water down the drain. The baking soda mixture will break down grease and grime, allowing the water to wash away the debris.

2.Freshen your carpet: If your carpet is plagued with odors or has lost its fresh smell, sprinkle some baking soda on it. Spread a thin layer of baking soda over the carpet’s surface and let it sit for 15-20 minutes. Then vacuum up the powder, carrying away undesirable odors, pet hair, and dirt—all while leaving your carpet smelling fresh and clean.

3.Brighten your laundry: Combine 1/2 cup each of baking soda and white vinegar with your usual laundry detergent for brighter, fresher-smelling clothes. The combined elements soften hard water and enhance your detergent’s cleaning ability without harming delicate fabrics.

4.Remove stubborn stains from pots and pans: Baking soda is a master in banishing stubborn stains from dishes without damaging them. Mix two tablespoons of baking soda with a small amount of water to create a paste-like consistency. Apply this paste directly onto stained surfaces and allow it to settle for 10-15 minutes before scrubbing with a sponge or soft brush.

5.Sparkling bathroom tiles: Bid adieu to dingy, mildew-stained tiles in your shower or bathroom with baking soda. Mix 1/2 cup of baking soda with water to achieve a thick paste consistency. Apply the paste to grout lines and bathroom tiles, allowing it to sit for 15-20 minutes before scrubbing away the dirt with a tough-bristle brush.

The beauty of baking soda lies in its low cost, non-toxic formulation, and accessibility. These five cleaning methods cover just a fraction of its potent capabilities—it can be used for everything from polishing silverware to cleaning outdoor furniture. Add baking soda to your cleaning arsenal to save time, money, and the environment!
