How to Juice a Lemon: 9 Steps

Step 1: Choose the Right Lemon

Pick a fresh and ripe lemon for optimal juicing. A good lemon should have a smooth, thin, and brightly colored skin; avoid ones with blemishes or wrinkles.

Step 2: Soften the Lemon

Roll the lemon on your kitchen counter while applying gentle pressure. This helps break down the tough fibers inside, making it easier to juice.

Step 3: Cut the Lemon

Slice the lemon in half crosswise (not lengthwise). This exposes more of the fruit’s pulp, yielding more juice.

Step 4: Prepare Your Workspace

Place a strainer or sieve over a bowl or measuring cup to catch seeds and pulp while allowing the juice to flow through.

Step 5: Manual Juicing Method

Place one lemon half into your palm, cut side facing down. Squeeze firmly using a twisting motion while releasing pressure over the strainer.

Step 6: Alternative Manual Juicing Methods

You can also use various kitchen tools like lemon squeezers, citrus reamers, or citrus presses for this task. Place the cut side of the half lemon on the instrument of your choice and squeeze as directed by each device’s instructions.

Step 7: Collecting The Juice

Let all juice drip through the strainer into your container. Be sure to give it time, as some juice might be hiding in the pulp.

Step 8: Retrieving More Juice (Optional)

If you desire more juice from your lemon, use your clean hands or a spoon to press any remaining pulp against the strainer.

Step 9: Store or Use Immediately

Use your fresh lemon juice immediately or store it in an airtight container in your refrigerator for up to two weeks.

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
