A perfect cup of Pakistani mix tea is an art that every tea lover should master. It’s a blend of flavor, richness, and warmth that brings people together and eases the concerns of the day. In Pakistan, chai is not only a beverage but represents a tradition that is passed down from one generation to another. Below are four ways you can make your perfect cup of Pakistani mix tea.

1. Traditional Method (Doodh Patti Chai):

One of the most revered forms in which mix tea is prepared in Pakistan, Doodh Patti chai uses simple ingredients like milk, water, sugar, and loose black tea leaves. The secret to nailing this classic method is in boiling the mix for a longer time on low heat.

– Take 1 cup of water and 1 cup of milk in a saucepan.

– Add two teaspoons of loose black tea leaves and one tablespoon of sugar or to taste.

– Allow the mixture to simmer on low heat for 5-7 minutes or until tea reaches your desired strength.

– Serve hot with any traditional Pakistani bread or biscuits.

2. Masala Chai:

Infusing a spicy twist to your regular mix tea brings Masala chai into existence. The most common spices utilized are cardamom, cloves, cinnamon, ginger, and black peppercorns.

– Begin with preparing the tea as described in the Traditional Method above.

– Crush 3 green cardamoms, 1 piece of cinnamon, 2 cloves and add them to the boiling tea.

– Optionally you can add ½ inch crushed ginger for an additional kick.

– Simmer for 5 minutes.

– Strain into cups and relish this delightful concoction.

3. Kashmiri Chai (Pink Tea):

This recipe not only gives you phenomenal taste but also visual appeal due to its pink color. It’s a treat for the eyes as much as it is for your taste buds.

– Boil two cups of water.

– Add 2 teaspoons of green tea leaves and cook for a minute.

– Next, add a pinch of baking soda, and continue to boil until the color darkens.

– Gently pour cold water into the pan until the color brightens to pinkish hue.

– Gradually pour in milk (around 1-1.5 cups) until you achieve your desired shade of pink.

– Add sugar to taste and let it simmer for another 5 minutes.

– Strain and serve hot topped with crushed pistachios or almonds.

4. Lemon-Ginger Tea:

A revitalizing mix of lemon and ginger adds a soothing touch to your Pakistani chai experience. It’s perfect for clearing up a stuffy head and tastes great too!

– Prepare the basic tea base according to the Traditional Method.

– Add ½ inch cube of crushed ginger while brewing the tea mix.

– After straining, squeeze in half a lemon and mix well to combine.

– Taste and add honey if desired to sweeten.

– Enjoy this zesty take on Pakistani mix tea.

No matter which method you choose, remember that practice makes perfect. Happy brewing!
