Sweet potato fries have become a popular alternative to traditional french fries, offering a healthier option for those who love their crispy, golden goodness. They’re packed with vitamins, fiber, and flavor, making them both delicious and nutritious. In this article, we’ll explore three ways to make sweet potato fries: baking, air frying, and deep frying. Each method has its advantages and can produce tasty results. Let’s dive in!

1. Baking Sweet Potato Fries

Baking is a simple, healthier way to make sweet potato fries. It requires less oil than frying and also keeps the kitchen free from any greasy mess.

Preparation:

– Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).

– Wash and peel two large sweet potatoes, then cut them into even 1/2-inch-thick sticks.

– Toss the sweet potato sticks in a bowl with 1 tablespoon of olive oil and your choice of seasonings like salt, pepper, garlic powder or paprika.

– Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and spread out the seasoned sweet potato sticks so that they are not overcrowded.

Baking:

– Bake for 15 minutes, then turn the fries and continue baking for another 10-15 minutes or until crisp and golden.

2. Air Frying Sweet Potato Fries

Using an air fryer is another healthier alternative for making sweet potato fries. This method results in crispy fries with a fraction of the oil used in traditional frying.

Preparation:

– Follow the same instructions as above for washing, peeling and cutting the sweet potatoes.

– Preheat your air fryer to 390°F (200°C).

– Toss the sweet potato sticks in a bowl with 1 tablespoon of olive oil and your choice of seasonings.

Air Frying:

– Place the seasoned sweet potato sticks in a single layer inside your air fryer basket, ensuring they are not overcrowded.

– Cook for 12-15 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through to ensure even cooking.

3. Deep Frying Sweet Potato Fries

Deep frying sweet potato fries gives them an unparalleled crispiness that many people love. However, this method uses more oil than the other two options.

Preparation:

– Follow the same instructions for washing, peeling, and cutting the sweet potatoes.

– Heat 2-3 inches of vegetable or canola oil in a deep, heavy pot to 350°F (176°C).

Deep Frying:

– Carefully lower the sweet potato sticks into the hot oil, using a slotted spoon or spider strainer. Be sure not to overcrowd them.

– Fry for 3-4 minutes or until the fries are golden brown and crispy.

– Remove from oil, placing them on paper towels to drain excess oil. Season immediately with salt to taste.

In conclusion, sweet potato fries can be made using various techniques to suit your personal preference and health goals. Baking and air frying prove to be healthier options while deep frying results in a true indulgent treat. Regardless of which method you choose, these irresistible sweet potato fries will undoubtedly become a staple snack in your household. Enjoy!
