3 Ways to Add Volume to Hair (for Men)

Hair volume is a crucial aspect of maintaining a well-groomed appearance for many men. Flat, lifeless hair can be an undesired look that many want to avoid, and there are several methods to achieve volume and lift. This article will explore three ways for men to achieve voluminous hair with minimal effort.

1. Use the right shampoo and conditioner

The foundation for voluminous hair starts in the shower. To avoid weighing down your hair, choose a lightweight shampoo and conditioner specifically designed to add volume. These products usually contain ingredients that eliminate excess oil, grease, and product buildup – all of which contribute to flat hair.

When washing your hair, massage the shampoo into your roots before rinsing thoroughly. This not only cleans the scalp but also promotes blood circulation, which could help with volume. Conditioner should be applied mainly to the lengths and ends of your hair, rather than the roots, as it can weigh hair down if used too close to the scalp.

2. Invest in volumizing styling products

There are numerous styling products available on the market that specifically cater to adding volume and lift. Choose a lightweight mousse or spray that won’t weigh your hair down or cause buildup.

To apply these styling products, make sure your hair is damp but not soaking wet – towel drying usually works best. Working from root to tip, distribute the product evenly throughout your hair using either a wide-tooth comb or your fingers. This ensures proper coverage of your entire head without concentrating too much product in one area.

3. Blow-dry with a technique

Believe it or not, blow-drying isn’t just for women; it’s also an effective way for men to add volume to their hair. To achieve optimal volume during blow-drying:

– Use a low heat setting: High heat can damage your hair and lead to frizz.

– Use a wide-tooth comb or vented brush: This will better distribute the heat and provide smoother hair.

– Blow-dry from the roots: Point the blow dryer at your roots and lift your hair while you dry. This creates a natural lift that adds volume.

– Create movement by blow-drying in various directions: Dry from left to right, and then right to left, to create lift throughout your entire head.

– Finish with a blast of cold air: This helps to set the style and maintains volume longer.

These three methods offer practical ways for men to achieve voluminous hair without resorting to extreme measures or spending excessive amounts of time. With proper care, thoughtful hair product selection, and strategic blow-drying techniques, maintaining volume is an achievable goal for any man looking to elevate his everyday appearance.
