Introduction

Condensed milk is a versatile and delicious ingredient that can be used in a wide variety of recipes, from creamy desserts to rich sauces. Making your own condensed milk at home is not only cost-effective but also allows you to control the quality of ingredients and customize the flavor. In this article, we will explore three different methods to make condensed milk – using whole milk, powdered milk, and non-dairy milk.

1. Using Whole Milk

Ingredients:

– 1-liter whole milk

– 1 cup granulated sugar

Instructions:

1. Pour the whole milk into a heavy-bottomed saucepan and bring it to a gentle simmer over medium heat.

2. Gradually add the sugar while continually stirring until it dissolves completely.

3. Reduce the heat to low and let the mixture cook for approximately 1-2 hours, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking or scorching.

4. Once the mixture has thickened and reduced by about half, remove from heat.

5. Allow it to cool for a few minutes before pouring it into an airtight container or jar.

6. Once cooled completely, store it in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

2. Using Powdered Milk

Ingredients:

– 1 cup water

– 2 cups powdered milk

– 1 cup granulated sugar

Instructions:

1. In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, gently heat the water over medium-low heat.

2. Slowly add the powdered milk, whisking continuously until well combined with no lumps remaining.

3. Gradually add the sugar while stirring until dissolved completely.

4. Cook over low heat for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally until mixture thickens.

5. Remove from heat and allow it to cool for several minutes before transferring to an airtight container or jar.

6. Once completely cooled, store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

3. Non-Dairy Condensed Milk

Ingredients:

– 1-liter almond milk or coconut milk

– 1 cup granulated sugar

Instructions:

1. Pour your choice of non-dairy milk into a heavy-bottomed saucepan and heat over medium heat.

2. Gradually add the sugar, stirring until dissolved completely.

3. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for about 2 hours, stirring occasionally until reduced by half and thickened.

4. Remove from heat and let cool for a few minutes before transferring to an airtight container or jar.

5. Once fully cooled, store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.

Conclusion

Homemade condensed milk allows you to have full control over the taste and texture, making it perfect for customized recipes or adapting traditional ones to suit specific dietary needs. Each of these methods offers a unique opportunity to create delicious condensed milk tailored to your preferences. Give them a try and discover the rewarding experience of making condensed milk from scratch!
