A hot dog is a classic meal that’s loved by many, and the Chicago-style hot dog is a delicious twist on this American favorite. With a medley of toppings bursting with flavors and textures, the Chicago-style hot dog is the stuff of legends. Follow this recipe to create the best Chicago-style hot dogs at home and indulge in a taste sensation that will transport you straight to the Windy City.

Ingredients:

– 8 all-beef hot dogs

– 8 poppy seed buns

– Yellow mustard

– Bright green relish (preferably neon green)

– Chopped white onions

– 2 Sliced fresh tomatoes

– Kosher dill pickle spears

– Sport peppers or pickled serrano peppers

– A pinch of celery salt

Instructions:

1. Preheat your grill or stovetop griddle over medium heat. Alternatively, you can opt for boiling the hot dogs in water for a steamed version.

2. Grill or boil the all-beef hot dogs until they’re cooked through and have a slightly crispy exterior. This should take about 8 minutes on the grill or 10 minutes in boiling water.

3. While the hot dogs are cooking, prepare your poppy seed buns. To achieve that steamy effect, wrap them in aluminum foil and place them on the top rack of your oven set on a low warm setting.

4. Assemble your toppings: finely chop white onions, slice tomatoes into wedges, and gather enough sport peppers or pickled serrano peppers for each hot dog.

5. When the hot dogs are done, remove them from heat and let them rest for a moment.

6. Unwrap your warm buns and place one cooked hot dog in each bun.

7. Now it’s time to layer on the toppings! Apply a generous squiggle of yellow mustard to each hot dog, followed by a heaping spoonful of green relish.

8. Evenly distribute the chopped onions onto each hot dog.

9. Place two tomato wedges on one side of each hot dog, then insert a kosher dill pickle spear on the opposite side.

10. Add two sport peppers or pickled serrano peppers atop each hot dog for some added heat and tang.

11. As a finishing touch, sprinkle just a pinch of celery salt over each fully topped Chicago-style hot dog.

Serve immediately and enjoy your authentic, homemade Chicago-style hot dogs with friends and family. An ice-cold beverage like lemonade or a frosty beer will perfectly complement these tasty treats. If you create these legendary hot dogs at your next cookout or game-day party, they’re sure to be an instant hit. Happy cooking!
