Ways to Straighten Permed Hair

Introduction:

Permed hair is a popular style that gives you beautiful curls and voluminous looks. However, there are occasions when you might want to switch it up and straighten those lush curls for another stunning hairstyle. In this article, we will discuss three effective ways to straighten permed hair without causing significant damage. Keep reading to learn how you can transform your curly tresses into shiny, sleek strands.

Method 1: Using a Heat Protectant and Flat Iron

1. Choose a heat protectant: It’s crucial to apply a heat protectant before straightening your permed hair, as it creates a barrier between your hair and the styling tool, preventing damage from excessive heat.

2. Blow-dry your hair: Gently towel dry your hair and then use a blow dryer with a concentrator nozzle attached to remove excess moisture. Dry your hair from roots to ends, holding the dryer at least 6 inches away from your head.

3. Section your hair: Divide your hair into smaller sections for better control during the straightening process.

4. Use a flat iron: Turn on the flat iron and adjust it to the appropriate temperature based on the thickness of your hair. Hold the tool at a slight angle and glide it from root to tip in one smooth motion, taking care not to overheat or clamp down on the same area for too long.

5. Finish with an anti-frizz serum or hairspray: To keep frizz at bay and maintain the sleek look, apply a lightweight serum or hairspray evenly through the lengths of your straightened hair.

Method 2: Using Hair Rollers

1. Prepare your hair: Shampoo and condition your permed hair, then gently towel dry.

2. Apply a setting lotion or mousse: Use either product to control frizz and define the curls while maintaining moisture balance.

3. Install large rollers: Separate your hair into sections and wind each part around a large roller, stretching the curls as you roll. Secure the rollers with clips.

4. Allow your hair to dry: Let the rollers sit in your hair until it’s completely dry. To speed up the process, use a hooded dryer on a low heat setting.

5. Remove the rollers and comb through: When the hair is thoroughly dry, remove the rollers and gently comb through with a wide-toothed comb to reveal smooth, straight locks.

Method 3: Using a Keratin Treatment

1. Consult with a professional hairstylist: A keratin treatment is best performed by an experienced stylist who can accurately assess the condition of your permed hair and tailor the treatment accordingly.

2. Application process: The stylist will apply a keratin solution to your hair, which bonds with and smoothens the hair cuticle.

3. Straightening: Once the solution has been applied, your stylist will straighten your permed hair using a flat iron or blow dryer to seal in the keratin treatment.

4. Aftercare: Avoid washing your hair for several days after receiving a keratin treatment. Use sulfate-free shampoo and conditioner to avoid stripping away the treatment prematurely.

Conclusion:

Straightening permed hair is achievable with careful attention and patience. By using one of these three methods – a heat protectant and flat iron, hair rollers, or a keratin treatment – you can enjoy sleek, straight locks without greatly compromising your hair’s integrity or health. Always remember to consult with a professional stylist for guidance if needed, and consider giving your hair regular breaks between styling sessions to maintain its overall wellness.
