Did You Know You Can Unsend and Edit Text Messages on Your iPhone? Here’s How

Have you ever experienced that dreadfully knotted feeling in your stomach when you accidentally sent an unintended text message? Or, how about that moment of panic when you spotted a glaring typo just as you hit the send button? Well, worry no more. Believe it or not, you can now unsend and even edit text messages on your iPhone. Allow us to enlighten you on how this game-changing feature works.

Unsending a Text Message

While there is no direct way to “unsend” a text message through the default Messages app, there’s a workaround using the “Invisible Ink” feature. Follow the steps below:

1. Open up the Messages app and select the conversation containing the message you wish to unsend.

2. Press and hold down on the respective message bubble.

3. Select “More” from the menu that appears.

4. Tap on the “Send with Invisible Ink” option.

5. Hit “Send” to replace your original message with an unreadable version.

Although it does not technically remove your original message from the recipient’s phone, it obscures its content—providing a practical solution for covering up sensitive information or embarrassing typos.

Edit Text Messages with Third-Party Apps

At present, editing sent messages isn’t a built-in functionality of any major messaging services like iMessage or SMS (Text Message). However, some third-party messaging apps offer this powerful feature. Here are two popular options:

1. WhatsApp: In addition to being available across multiple platforms, WhatsApp sports an edit feature that allows users to easily modify their sent messages:

a) Long press on the message that requires editing.

b) Tap on the pencil icon at the top of the screen.

c) Edit your message as desired.

d) Press “Save” to apply your changes.

2. Telegram: Apart from its focus on privacy and security, Telegram offers a seamless way to edit your sent messages:

a) Tap on the message you’d like to alter.

b) Choose “Edit” from the action menu that emerges.

c) Make any necessary changes.

d) Hit “Save” to confirm.

So, there you have it—a straightforward guide on how you can unsend and edit text messages on your iPhone using various workarounds and third-party applications. While these solutions may not be perfect, they can significantly save you from potential awkward, unintentional, or embarrassing messaging situations. Cheers to a future without message-related anxiety!
