1. Story Sequencing: Give the students a series of picture cards or sentences and have them put them in the correct order to tell a story.

2. Reading Response Journal: Have the students keep a journal where they write about their thoughts, feelings, and connections to the books they are reading.

3. Word Hunts: Give the students a list of target words and have them search for those words in a story or passage.

4. Partner Reading: Pair students up and have them take turns reading aloud to each other. They can discuss the story as they read.

5. Character Profiles: Have the students create profiles for the main characters in a book, including information about their appearance, personality, and actions.

6. Book Club: Divide the class into small groups and assign each group a book to read together. They can discuss the book and share their thoughts and opinions.

7. Story Maps: Have the students create maps to illustrate the settings of different stories they have read. They can include key locations and details.

8. Retelling Rope: Give the students a long piece of rope and have them tie knots to represent the beginning, middle, and end of a story. They can use the rope to help them retell the story.

9. Prediction Prompts: Give the students a series of prompts that ask them to predict what will happen next in a story. They can use the clues from the text to make their predictions.

10. Reader’s Theater: Have the students act out scenes from a book or create their own scripts based on the books they have read.

11. Vocabulary Bingo: Create bingo cards with vocabulary words from the stories the students have read. Call out definitions or use the words in sentences for the students to mark on their cards.

12. Graphic Organizers: Use graphic organizers, such as Venn diagrams or story maps, to help the students organize their thoughts and understand the structure of a story.

These 12 fun second-grade reading comprehension activities aim to make the learning process more enjoyable while enhancing students’ reading skills. By incorporating these activities into the classroom, educators can foster a love for reading and strengthen students’ comprehension abilities.

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
