Candles are not just a source of light but also an essential element of decor that can create a calming and soothing ambiance in your living space. Enhance this experience by making your own candles using essential oils for an added therapeutic touch. Here’s how you can make a scented candle with essential oils in simple steps.

Materials:

– Soy wax flakes or beeswax

– Essential oils

– Cotton wick

– Wick holder/centering device

– Candle container (glass or metal)

– Double boiler or microwave-safe bowl

– Thermometer

– Stirring spoon

– Scale for measuring wax

Step 1: Prepare the candle container and wick

Start by choosing the right container for your candle. It should be heat-resistant and large enough to hold the melted wax. Fix the wick to the center of the container using a drop of melted wax, then place the wick holder or centering device on top to keep the wick straight and steady.

Step 2: Melt the wax

Measure enough wax flakes to fill your container using a scale. It’s recommended to use two times the volume of the container. Melt your wax using a double boiler or in a microwave-safe bowl, stirring occasionally until it’s completely melted and has reached a temperature of around 180°F (82°C).

Step 3: Add essential oils

Once your wax is fully melted, let it cool down slightly until it reaches approximately 150°F (65°C). Add your choice of essential oil(s) into the melted wax. The recommended ratio is approximately 15 drops per ounce of wax. Stir gently for about 30 seconds to ensure even distribution.

Step 4: Pour the wax into the container

Carefully pour the melted wax into your prepared candle container, taking care not to displace the centered wick. Let the candle cool and solidify without disturbing it for a few hours or, ideally, overnight.

Step 5: Trim the wick and enjoy

Once the wax has completely hardened, remove the wick holder or centering device and trim the wick to about 1/4 -inch (6mm). Your essential oil candle is now ready to light up.

Conclusion

Making candles with essential oils is a simple and rewarding process. Choose your favorite scents or try blending different oils to create your own unique aroma. Homemade scented candles also make thoughtful gifts for friends and family. Enjoy the therapeutic benefits of essential oils while you fill your home with beautiful fragrances.
