4 Ways to Move a Shed

Introduction:

When you decide to rearrange your backyard or move to a new location, relocating your shed can be a daunting task. Luckily, there are various methods to move a shed safely and efficiently. In this article, we’ll discuss four ways to move a shed – by using rollers, sleds, a hydraulic jack, or hiring professional movers.

1. Using Rollers:

Rollers are essentially pipes that function as moving casters for heavy objects like sheds. To move a shed using rollers, follow these steps:

– Begin by clearing the area around your shed and ensuring there’s enough space to roll it.

– Lift one side of the shed using a pry bar and slip the rollers underneath.

– Repeat the process on the other side.

– Slowly push or pull the shed in the desired direction. As the rollers come out from behind, move them back under the front of the shed. Continue this process until you’ve moved the shed to its new location.

2. Utilizing Sleds:

A sled is another useful method for moving sheds, especially over softer ground where rollers may sink. To move your shed with a sled, follow these steps:

– Construct or purchase wooden sleds that match your shed’s dimensions.

– Lift one side of your shed using a hydraulic jack or pry bar and slide the sleds underneath.

– Attach ropes or straps to anchor points on your shed structure and use them as handles for pulling.

– With helpers or towing equipment, pull or drag your shed to its desired location.

3. Hydraulic Jack System:

Hydraulic jacks can lift heavy loads smoothly and steadily without causing any damage to your shed. To move it using hydraulic jacks:

– Place two hydraulic jacks at opposite corners of your shed under sturdy structural beams.

– Slowly lift one side of the shed until you achieve clearance from the ground for relocating equipment.

– Once lifted, insert transport dollies or rollers under the shed.

– Carefully lower the shed onto the dollies or rollers and move it to its new destination.

4. Hiring Professional Movers:

If moving a shed seems overwhelming or unsafe, consider hiring professional shed movers with experience and proper equipment. Professional movers typically offer services such as:

– Assessing your shed and determining the appropriate moving methods.

– Moving your existing shed to a new location within your property or transporting it to a new address.

– Assisting with disassembly and reassembly, if required.

Conclusion:

Whether you’re using rollers, sleds, a hydraulic jack system, or hiring professional movers, safely moving your shed requires careful planning and execution. Each method has its benefits, so consider factors such as your budget, time constraints, and access to appropriate equipment when choosing the best solution for relocating your shed.
