For decades, Mercedes-Benz’s high-performance division, AMG, has been producing some of the most desirable and iconic vehicles in the automotive world. Known for their incredible performance and stylish designs, these machines have earned their place in the hearts of car enthusiasts around the globe. In this article, we will take a look at some of the best AMG models of all time.

1. Mercedes-Benz 300SEL 6.8 AMG (1971)

Dubbed the “Red Pig” due to its red paint job and large size, this race car based on the 300SEL luxury sedan was AMG’s first major success story. With a 6.8-liter V8 engine that produced 428 horsepower, it managed to achieve a surprising second place finish at the 24-hour race at Spa in 1971.

2. Mercedes-Benz C36 AMG (1995)

As the first production model developed jointly by Mercedes-Benz and AMG, the C36 marked an important milestone in their partnership. Equipped with a 3.6-liter inline-six engine producing 276 horsepower and an impressive torque output of 284 lb-ft, this sporty sedan could reach a top speed of over 155 mph.

3. Mercedes-Benz CLK GTR (1997)

Designed as a race car for the FIA GT championship, only 25 road-legal versions of this ultra-rare model were built to meet homologation requirements. Powered by a massive 6.9-liter V12 engine that delivered over 600 horsepower, this iconic supercar boasted jaw-dropping performance figures and an unmistakable design.

4. Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren (2003)

A joint project between Mercedes-Benz and its Formula One partner McLaren, the SLR was an incredible piece of engineering that combined both companies’ expertise to create one of the most breathtaking supercars ever made. Packing a supercharged 5.4-liter V8, it produced 617 horsepower and could reach a top speed of over 200 mph.

5. Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG (2010)

The spiritual successor to the legendary 300SL Gullwing, the modern SLS AMG brought back the iconic gullwing doors and introduced an all-new 6.2-liter V8 engine that delivered 563 horsepower, taking the car from 0-60 mph in just 3.7 seconds.

6. Mercedes-AMG GT R (2017)

Built with track performance in mind, the GT R was a more aggressive and powerful version of the standard AMG GT. Its twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 produced an impressive 577 horsepower, resulting in a top speed of around 198 mph and a blistering Nurburgring lap time of just 7 minutes and 10.9 seconds.

These are just some of the greatest AMG models to have ever graced our roads and racetracks. Each car on this list holds a special place in automotive history and has helped solidify AMG’s reputation as Mercedes-Benz’s high-performance division, specializing in powerful engines and unparalleled driving experiences.
