As a passionate gamer, you may eventually run out of space on your hard drive due to the sheer number of games you’ve installed. A practical solution is to move some or all of them to another hard drive on your computer. This article will guide you through several methods of transferring your PC games from one hard drive to another, saving you from having to redownload and reinstall them.

Using Steam Built-in Feature

1. Launch the Steam client software and log in to your account.

2. Go to the “Library” tab where all your installed games are listed.

3. Right-click on the game you want to move and select “Properties.”

4. Go to the “Local Files” tab and click on “Move Install Folder.”

5. In the drop-down menu, choose the new location for your game installation, then click “Move Folder.”

6. Wait for Steam to move the game files for you, which might take some time depending on the game size.

Using GOG Galaxy Built-in Feature

1. Open GOG Galaxy and log in with your account credentials.

2. Browse your library and locate the game you want to move.

3. Click on the settings icon (three horizontal dots) next to the “Play” button of your selected game.

4. Select “Manage Installation” followed by “Move Game Folder.”

5. Choose a directory where you want your game’s data moved and click “Choose Directory.”

6. Wait for GOG Galaxy to process the transfer.

Manually Moving Game Files (For Other DRM-Free Games)

1. Close any gaming platforms or running games before making any changes.

2. Go to your current folder where your games are installed.

3. Copy or cut (Ctrl+X) the desired game folder you wish to move.

4. Navigate to your desired destination hard drive, create a new folder if needed, and paste (Ctrl+V) the game folder.

5. Update any desktop or start menu shortcuts to point to the new location.

6. If any game relies on a DRM platform (e.g., Steam, GOG Galaxy), add the new installation path.

Note: Some games might need additional steps for proper workings, such as registry edits or .ini configuration file changes.

Moving Games Installed Through Other Clients

For other game clients like Origin and Uplay, you may refer to their respective support sections for precise instructions on moving games between hard drives.

Conclusion

By following the outlined methods in this article, you’ll now be able to move your PC games to a different hard drive with relative ease. Be sure to keep track of where your games are located and enjoy the additional space on your primary hard drive for other applications or purposes.
