Galaxy Z Flip 4 vs. Z Fold 4: The Differences Between Samsung’s Foldable Phones

The foldable smartphone market has been steadily growing, and at the forefront of this innovative technology are Samsung’s premium devices, the Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy Z Fold series. In this article, we will explore the differences between the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 4 and the Z Fold 4, helping you make an informed decision when choosing your next foldable smartphone.

Design and Form Factor

The most striking difference between the two devices is their design and form factor. The Galaxy Z Flip 4 adopts a clamshell design, reminiscent of flip phones from the early 2000s, that folds vertically in half. This allows users to open the device up to reveal a larger screen while maintaining a compact form factor when closed.

On the other hand, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 features a book-like design, folding horizontally inwards to uncover a tablet-sized display. This design is tailored towards those who want a full-sized smartphone display capable of transforming into a small tablet.

Display

In terms of display, both the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Z Fold 4 utilize Samsung’s Ultra-Thin Glass (UTG) technology for added durability and quality. However, there are distinctions between their respective displays. The Z Flip 4 offers a tall aspect ratio in a versatile 6.7-inch folding AMOLED display for day-to-day usage.

Conversely, the Z Fold 4 boasts a primary 7.6-inch folding AMOLED screen with support for Samsung’s S Pen stylus. This makes it perfect for multitasking, productivity tasks, media consumption or creative work such as drawing or taking notes on-the-go.

Cameras

The camera setups on both devices differ due to their distinct designs and target audiences. The Galaxy Z Flip 4 generally features a dual-camera system on its rear panel, consisting of a primary and an ultra-wide-angle lens, along with a front-facing camera under the display for selfies and video calls.

The Galaxy Z Fold 4, being a flagship device, packs a triple-camera setup on its back, including a primary lens, an ultra-wide-angle lens, and a telephoto lens. The Z Fold 4 also usually has two inner cameras—one under the main display and another on the cover display—to cater to various photography and videography needs.

Performance and Battery

Both the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Z Fold 4 can be expected to house flagship-grade processors such as Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8-series or Samsung’s Exynos chips. As for battery capacity, the Z Fold 4 traditionally has a larger battery due to its more expansive display and additional features compared to the Z Flip 4.

The Verdict

Ultimately, choosing between the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Z Fold 4 comes down to individual preferences. If you are seeking a sleek, foldable phone with modern features in a compact design, then the Z Flip 4 would be your ideal choice. However, if productivity, multitasking ability, and top-of-the-line specifications matter more to you, then the Galaxy Z Fold 4 is undoubtedly worth considering.
