Are you considering selling or trading in your old iPhone for a new model? Wait a second – we have some exciting ideas on how you can repurpose that old device! By reusing your iPhone, not only do you save money, but you’re also helping the environment by reducing electronic waste. Here are eight ways to breathe new life into your old iPhone.

1. Turn it into a dedicated music player

Why spend on an iPod when your old iPhone can still play your favorite tunes and podcasts? You can convert your old device into a dedicated music player by syncing it with iTunes, Spotify, or any other music streaming service that you prefer.

2. Create a smart home control hub

Control your smart home devices like thermostats, light switches, and door locks by turning your old iPhone into a dedicated smart home control hub. Download the necessary apps from the App Store and manage all of your smart devices from one place.

3. Repurpose as a security camera or baby monitor

With the help of free apps available on the App Store, such as Manything or Presence, transform your old iPhone into an efficient security camera or baby monitor. Position it in an area you want to monitor, connect it to Wi-Fi, and voilà – instant surveillance without spending extra money.

4. Use it as an e-reader

E-readers can be expensive, but did you know that your old iPhone can work just as well? Simply download Kindle, Kobo, iBooks, or any other e-reading app and enjoy countless books at your fingertips.

5. Digital cookbook in the kitchen

Bring up recipes on YouTube or Pinterest while you cook by using your old iPhone as a digital cookbook. You’ll no longer have to worry about getting food or grease on your (new) phone screen!

6. Keep it as a dedicated gaming console

With a vast library of iPhone games available and more being released every day, repurpose your old device into a gaming console. You won’t have to worry about draining your new phone’s battery, and you can still enjoy all the games you love.

7. Transform it into an alarm clock

Placing an iPhone on your nightstand can be a great way to repurpose it as a dedicated alarm clock. There are plenty of free apps available that can help set multiple alarms, provide soothing sleep sounds, or even wake you up with light simulations.

8. Convert it into a digital photo frame

Show off your favorite memories by using your old iPhone as a digital photo frame. Simply download a photo slideshow app and plug in your device – you now have an eco-friendly way to display pictures at home.

Don’t be too hasty in selling or trading in your old iPhone, as there are numerous ways to put it to good use. With these eight suggestions, you can give your old device a new life and save money in the process!

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
