Resident Evil 7 Biohazard review: Welcome back to the family

Introduction:

Resident Evil 7 Biohazard took the gaming world by storm when it was released in January 2017. After mixed receptions to Resident Evil 5 and 6, Capcom decided to bring the series back to its survival horror roots, and they did it with great success. Here’s a review of Resident Evil 7, which welcomes you back to the family of true survival horror experiences.

Story:

The game is set in the fictional town of Dulvey, Louisiana, as protagonist Ethan Winters searches for his missing wife, Mia. Upon finding her in a seemingly abandoned plantation house, Ethan soon discovers that the Baker family inhabits this home, and they are anything but normal. Throughout the game, Ethan must face terrifying creatures and solve intricate puzzles to uncover the truth behind Mia’s disappearance and unravel the mystery of the Baker family.

Gameplay:

Resident Evil 7 Biohazard distances itself from the action-oriented style of its predecessors by returning to a classic survival horror formula. Players navigate through creepy environments full of foreboding atmosphere and limited resources while solving puzzles to progress. The first-person perspective amplifies the chilling atmosphere and increases immersion, intensifying your experience.

Enemies in RE7 are formidable; players must use their limited supplies wisely while fighting or outsmarting foes. Stealth plays a key role in evading danger – sometimes avoiding enemies altogether is necessary for survival.

Sound & Graphics:

RE7 boasts exquisite sound design – creaking floorboards, eerie whispers, and distant screams make for an unsettling atmosphere. The graphics are also top-notch, with fantastic attention to detail given to both environments and characters, fully realizing the horrifying vision intended by the developers.

Difficulty & Length:

The game offers a firm challenge without being overwhelmingly difficult. Puzzles can be complex yet solvable with careful thought, forcing players to think strategically. With a storyline of roughly 8-12 hours, RE7 feels long enough to provide a fulfilling horror experience without overstaying its welcome.

VR Capability:

Resident Evil 7 was the first main entry in the franchise to offer VR (PlayStation VR) support. It brings a whole new level of terror and immersion to the experience but can be quite intense for those with weak stomachs.

Conclusion:

Overall, Capcom’s Resident Evil 7 Biohazard is a fantastic return to the series’ roots and a much-needed breath of fresh air for fans. The engaging narrative, horrifying ambiance, and thrilling gameplay make it an unforgettable survival horror game that both newcomers and longtime fans will adore. So brace yourself, and welcome back to the family!
