Nintendo 2DS XL review: Nintendo’s 2DS XL handheld deserves a big hand

Nintendo has consistently been a household name for gamers everywhere. With continuous innovations in the world of handheld gaming consoles, they’ve managed to solidify their place as the go-to experts in the gaming industry. One of their latest offerings, the Nintendo 2DS XL, definitely lives up to their reputation.

Design and Build

The New Nintendo 2DS XL sports a sleek and eye-catching clamshell design that sets it apart from its predecessor, the original Nintendo 2DS. The ergonomics are significantly better as it comfortably fits into your hands even on extended gaming sessions. The lightweight and slim body make it convenient to carry around and adds to its portability.

Screen

The new device boasts 82% larger screens in comparison to the original 2DS. The top screen is now at an impressive 4.88 inches while the bottom screen has also been upgraded to 4.18 inches. Though the resolution has not seen any improvements, the display remains vibrant and provides an enjoyable gaming experience.

Performance

The New Nintendo 2DS XL packs a more powerful processor than its predecessor, which means shorter load times and smoother gameplay for your favorite titles. Unlike the original Nintendo 2DS, this version does not have any issues regarding slowdowns or lag.

Battery Life

One key aspect of any handheld consoles is their battery life; nobody wants to have their gaming session cut short by constant low battery alerts. The New Nintendo 2DS XL has a standard battery life of about 3-7 hours depending on usage, a decent lifespan for most on-the-go gaming sessions.

Games Compatibility

What truly makes this console stand out is its compatibility with a vast library of games from previous generations on both physical cartridges and downloadable digital copies. Players can easily access popular titles from DS, 3DS (in 2D), and Virtual Console games, including those from NES, Game Boy, and more.

Audio Quality

One significant downside to the New Nintendo 2DS XL is the built-in speakers. They have been shifted to the bottom of the console and tend to be muffled when resting on a surface or held by the user. However, this issue can be mitigated by using headphones, which will provide a more immersive audio experience.

Price Point

The New Nintendo 2DS XL sits at a wallet-friendly price point making it an attractive alternative to the more expensive Nintendo Switch. The ability to access a wide range of games at a relatively lower cost certainly gives it an edge over its pricier counterparts.

Conclusion

Overall, the New Nintendo 2DS XL deserves praise for its impressive design, improved performance, and vast compatibility with a variety of games. Although it does not come without its flaws, such as the underwhelming speakers, this handheld device offers great value for money and caters to gamers looking for a portable option that doesn’t break the bank. It proves that sometimes, reinventing the way we look at gaming consoles is just what we need – and with this one in your hands, you’re bound to have a great time gaming on-the-go!
