Introduction:

With the increasing popularity of Amazon Echo and other voice-controlled smart speakers, ensuring privacy when it comes to surprise gift purchases has become more important than ever. Here’s a guide on how to prevent your Amazon Echo from spoiling your shopping surprise.

1. Turn Off Voice Purchase Notifications:

First, you’ll want to disable voice purchase notifications to ensure that the device doesn’t notify your family members about recent purchases or deliveries. Follow these steps:

a. Open the Alexa app on your smartphone
b. Tap on ‘More’ in the bottom right corner
c. Go to ‘Settings’
d. Select ‘Notifications’
e. Choose ‘Amazon Shopping’
f. Toggle off ‘Enable purchase notifications.’

2. Mute Alexa’s Voice:

Another option is to mute the speaker temporarily when ordering or checking the status of a surprise gift. To do this, simply press the microphone button on top of your Amazon Echo device; it will turn red, indicating that Alexa cannot hear or respond to commands.

3. Use a Personal Device:

It helps to use a personal device like a smartphone or tablet to shop for gifts instead of relying on voice commands through Amazon Echo or other smart speakers.

4. Archive or Delete Your Orders:

To keep your orders and deliveries hidden from prying eyes, consider archiving or deleting order history in your Amazon account.

a. Log into your Amazon account
b. Click on ‘Your Orders’
c. Locate the order you wish to hide
d. Click on ‘Archive Order’ or ‘Delete Order’ depending on your preference

5. Utilize Amazon Locker:

In case you’re worried about packages arriving while you’re not home, choose an Amazon Locker as your delivery destination to keep gifts secret until you can retrieve them at your convenience.

6 Consider Using Different Accounts:

For households with multiple users, consider creating separate Amazon accounts for individual users to keep purchases private from each other.

Conclusion:

Maintaining privacy during holiday or special occasion shopping can be challenging when using Amazon Echo devices. By following these helpful tips, you can protect the surprise of gift-giving and make your special occasions even more memorable.
