Introduction:

Bing, Microsoft’s search engine, sometimes gets installed on your computer without your consent, especially when downloading other software. Although it is not a virus or malware, it can still be annoying and unwanted for some users. In this article, we will look at nine easy ways to remove Bing from your computer and restore your preferred search engine.

1. Uninstall Bing Application:

The first step to remove Bing is to uninstall the Bing application from your computer. Go to the Control Panel, click on “Uninstall a Program,” find “Bing” in the list of installed programs, and click “Uninstall.” Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.

2. Remove Bing from Browser Settings:

To remove Bing as your default search engine in your browser settings, open your browser settings menu, go to the search engine settings, and select your preferred search engine as default.

3. Delete Bing Extensions:

Bing may have installed extensions in your browser. Go to your browser’s extensions or add-ons manager and remove any extensions related to Bing or Microsoft.

4. Reset your Browser:

If all else fails, resetting your browser settings to their default state should get rid of any remaining traces of Bing. Keep in mind that this will also reset any custom settings you have made in the past.

5. Remove Bing from Windows Search:

To disable Bing from Windows Search, open Windows Settings > Search > Permissions & History, and toggle off “Allow sending searches from Cortana/Search box to Microsoft.”

6. Use Anti-Adware Software:

To ensure that there are no additional trace elements of Bing left on your computer, scan your system using anti-adware or anti-malware software to detect and delete any associated files.

7. Disable Cortana & Windows 10 Web Search:

Disabling Cortana and web search in Windows 10 can help prevent future Bing-related issues. Go to Windows 10 Settings > Privacy & Security > Voice Activation, and toggle off “Let apps use voice activation when this device is locked.”

8. Clean Registry Entries:

It is possible that Bing makes changes to your computer’s registry entries. Use a reputable registry cleaner software to check and clean any outdated or invalid registry entries related to Bing.

9. Install an Alternative Browser:

Using an alternative browser like Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome, or Opera can limit Bing’s influence on your searching habits. These browsers allow for custom search engines and provide greater control over search preferences.

Conclusion:

With these nine easy steps, you should be able to remove Bing from your computer and the associated browser settings, ensuring a personalized and uninterrupted browsing experience. Stay vigilant in the future to avoid any unwanted software installations that could cause similar issues.
