When it comes to early literacy activities, technology can be a valuable tool to engage and motivate young learners. Here are 8 exciting activities that use technology to promote early literacy skills:

1. Digital Storybooks: Introduce children to the world of reading with interactive digital storybooks. These engaging books often include animations, sound effects, and interactive elements that enhance the reading experience.

2. Phonics Apps: Help children develop phonemic awareness and phonics skills with interactive apps that teach letter sounds, blending, and word recognition. Many of these apps provide fun games and activities to make learning enjoyable.

3. Alphabet Games: Use online alphabet games to help children recognize and become familiar with letters. These games often involve matching, sorting, and identifying letters in a fun and interactive way.

4. Sight Word Practice: Make sight word practice more enjoyable by using online games and flashcard apps. These resources provide repetitive practice of common sight words, helping children to memorize them effortlessly.

5. Virtual Writing Activities: Encourage early writing skills by using virtual writing platforms. These platforms often include features like word prediction and voice-to-text technology, providing support and feedback as children explore writing.

6. Interactive Word Building: Engage children in word-building activities using interactive tools and websites. These activities allow children to manipulate letters and sounds to create words, developing their phonics and spelling skills.

7. Storytelling Apps: Foster creativity and language skills with storytelling apps. Children can create their own stories using digital tools, such as customizable characters, backgrounds, and sound effects.

8. Digital Reading Challenges: Make reading a game by participating in digital reading challenges or programs. Many websites and apps offer reading challenges with rewards and incentives, motivating children to read more.

By incorporating technology into early literacy activities, educators and parents can provide an interactive and engaging learning experience for young children. These activities not only promote literacy skills but also foster a love for reading and language.

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
