The Adirondack Mountains in New York are a winter wonderland, offering picturesque snow-covered landscapes and a variety of cold-weather activities. Here are eight of the best towns for a winter getaway in the Adirondacks:

1.Lake Placid: Widely known for hosting the 1980 Winter Olympics, Lake Placid is a haven for winter sports enthusiasts. Visitors can enjoy skiing and snowboarding at Whiteface Mountain, as well as ice skating, bobsledding, and exploring the quaint downtown.

2.Saranac Lake: Just a short drive from Lake Placid, Saranac Lake has a more laid-back vibe with fewer crowds. Winter carnival festivities brighten up the chilly months, with ice sculptures, sports competitions, and a palace made entirely of ice.

3.Old Forge: This town is the gateway to the Fulton Chain of Lakes and is bustling in winter with snowmobiling trails connecting to hundreds of miles across the state park. Old Forge also hosts a family-friendly ski resort at McCauley Mountain.

4.North Creek: Skiing takes center stage here with Gore Mountain offering some of the best downhill slopes in Upstate New York. North Creek also provides charming small-town allure alongside its outdoor adventures.

5.Lake George: While it’s known for its summer activities, Lake George is just as delightful in winter. Its Winter Carnival every weekend in February features outhouse races on ice, polar plunges, and snowmobile rides on the frozen lake.

6.Tupper Lake: Offers serene beauty and a chance to witness star-filled skies from the Adirondack Sky Center & Observatory. Its uncrowded slopes at Big Tupper Ski Area make it ideal for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle.

7.Keene: A hamlet perfect for those seeking peace amidst nature. With access to several trailheads leading into the High Peaks Wilderness Area, Keene is fantastic for snowshoeing or backcountry skiing enthusiasts

8.Inlet: This cozy town on the Fulton Chain of Lakes offers quiet accommodation along with excellent cross-country skiing trails at Fern Park. Inlet also throws seasonal events like their annual Frozen Fire & Lights event.

No matter which town you choose, you’ll be greeted by stunning scenery and friendly locals ready to share their slice of winter paradise in the Adirondacks.

About Us

Since technology is not going anywhere and does more good than harm, adapting is the best course of action. That is where The Tech Edvocate comes in. We plan to cover the PreK-12 and Higher Education EdTech sectors and provide our readers with the latest news and opinion on the subject. From time to time, I will invite other voices to weigh in on important issues in EdTech. We hope to provide a well-rounded, multi-faceted look at the past, present, the future of EdTech in the US and internationally.

We started this journey back in June 2016, and we plan to continue it for many more years to come. I hope that you will join us in this discussion of the past, present and future of EdTech and lend your own insight to the issues that are discussed.
